As Lily takes us back to her younger years, we see an obedient and keen to please daughter who wants more than anything for her mother to love her. Yes, it really does suck to read about the abuses women suffered at the hands of those they held se to them.

The publisher’s missed an opportunity to replicate the secret fan from See’s clues – would have been a bonus. Well researched and beautifully written. I read the first two chapters or so a few days back when I was doing a mini “try a chapter challenge” and thought that the first 20 pages of the book were just a bit slow and dull, but that never really changed for me.
At the same time, I also saw bits of myself in her — my unwillingness to let something I perceive as an insult slide in the interest of keeping solid relationships with others was mirrored in Lily’s defiance and feeling that Snow Flower had betrayed her.
She danced waltz with a very handsome Mr. Refresh and try again. This was my first novel of Lisa See ‘s and was chosen for my book club. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. This circle, to be honest, has only broken with me. Many people praise two elements within Snow Flower and the Secret Fan: Because they are real people represented here, and not fairy tale characters.
I kept waiting for some great act of heroism. As the years pass, through famine and rebellion, they reflect upon their arranged marriages, loneliness, and the joys and tragedies of motherhood. Lots of juicy plot possibility there. View all 9 comments.

Actually I am torn about how I feel about this book. The idea that not only were you not supposed to leave one area of your house, but actually could not go more than a few abnico because of your bound feet, is horrifying to me.
I pointed out that his abanicp crush, Paris Hilton yeah, another reason I dumped him has huge size-eleven feet. It was definitely an interesting read and some concepts can be applicable even in modern times.
