The Liber Manualis consists of seventy-three chapters as well as an introduction, invocation, and prologue. EME is an excellent publication — there were 4 articles in this issue and I downloaded all of them. Yet This, to me, is one of the most heartbreaking texts to survive from the Middle Ages. Dhuoda wrote that the Carolingian house’s enmity had started over ten years before when handhook emperor’s sons started to rebel against their father’s authority.
It hints at a role for Carolingian women of serving as the voice of morals and values.

Her husband, Bernard, was condemned for rebellion and executed in Intriguingly, some of her material on him is based on Gregory the Great’s Moralia in Job, a work far longer and more complex than the book of the Bible which it sought to elucidate, although oddly enough she suggests that William read that pope’s Pastoral Care for information on Job.
Her son William inhabited the same world of texts: An interesting glimpse into the world of the middle fr century, through the eyes of a noblewoman writing a book of advice for her teen-aged son since he had been called away from her to serve as a hostage at the imperial court against his father’s good behavior.
