Pim van Lommel’s work is not a biblical exegesis on the subject of life after death. And who is The questions that he asks and the conclusions that he draws are solid. In Consciousness Beyond Life, van Lommel shows that our consciousness does not always coincide with brain functions and that, remarkably and significantly, consciousness can even be experienced separate from the body. The central section is fairly scientific, with statistical information and the psychological after-effects of NDEs, long chapters detailing what happens in the brain when the heart suddenly stops, what we know about brain function and a primer on quantum physics and consciousness with scientifically based speculation and theory on what could be happening.
Why isn’t everyone reading it? But it was good to read because it made me think in a way I am not accustomed to think. But that ice cube makes me appreciate how mysterious science can be. His thoughts about the role of DNA, albeit intriguing, require a lot more validation and more thoughtful development vis a vis the relationship between DNA and consciousness.
