There are other traditional elements here, from the prince choosing his bride from all of the nobly born maidens of the kingdom, pumpkins, but it is also rather down-to-earth as well.
Cendrillon as a character wasn’t perfect for me. Love is something that grows.

I really liked how the step mother and two step sisters were written, the love interests, and Old Mathilde the stand-in for the fairy godmother.
Cameron Dokey’s contributions to the “Once Upon a Time” series are undoubtedly the finest, but her retelling of Cinderella is initially a little hit and miss.
Oddly, in time, they four females form a bond. Not I wish I had read these stories when I was younger. The whole story just made me happy, which is what a fairy tales should do. I think I would have actually liked these books a lot if they had just skipped the romance altogether. When the sorcress explains that she has a daughter with long luscious blond hair who needs to find true love, Rapunzel needs to help.
